Really? I've only really gotten into the first few minutes of this song... it sort of becomes slow. I'm a huge fan of the (spanish?) other language. Very cool
-
Yeah. The last song, Cassandra Gemini, is fucking long - over 30 minutes. The whole album is really only five songs split into parts, but the track listing was fucked up on purpose so that they wouldn't have to sell it as an EP - five songs isn't enough for a "full album". Anyway, yeah, it rules. The Widow (track 5 I think?) is the single, and you can tell cause it's catchy and sweet. Track 6 (which is really the beginning of the third song, L'Via L'Viaquez) is fucking awesome, the guitar makes me want to fucking kill myself. And then it totally switches to this fucking Mexican piano waltz while he whispers these badass lyrics and it is really sweet. Then it goes back to the badass guitar. That song is really sweet. :) Anyway. Listen and enjoy.
[edit]
Let me know if you want the album separated as it was supposed to be...I extracted it as the five songs as opposed to the twelve tracks or whatever. I've got an Apache server running so just PM me. :)

It would have been awesome if they'd left out the periods of pointless, annoying noise.
I know it's supposed to be artistic, but they seem to be sacrificing form for some kind of abstract significance. Somebody should pat them on the head and tell them that we like them how they are, and that they shouldn't try so hard to be "out there".
Or I'm totally wrong and the album is a work of modern genius.

Yeah, I agree. Especially in the last song; almost half could have been cut down. But for the most part, I really like it and you can always fast-forward through the boring parts. :)

I'm glad we see eye to eye. I just assumed most Mars Volta fans would defend it as being genius. :)
-
It's hard to defend the sounds of cars driving past and call it genius :P ...I'd like to see someone try though, I'm sure there's many fans that would
But annoying noise aside the album is really great, I'd love to see them live

Gift Shop - The Hip
The beautiful lull, the dangerous tug
We get to feel small from high up above
And after a glimpse over the top
The rest of the world becomes a gift shop
The pendulum swings for the horse like a man
Out over the rim is ice cream to him
The beautiful lull, the dangerous tug
we get to feel small but not out of place at all
We're forced to bed but we're free to dream
All us human extras, all us herded beings
And after a glimpse over the top
The rest of the world becomes a gift shop
I don't know what to believe, sometimes I even forget
And if it's a lie, terrorists made me say it
The beautiful lull, the dangerous tug
We get to feel small from high up above
From high up above

You can't see my eyes
They don't see yours
Hear me when I say
I don't mind at all
It's the rain that I hear coming
Not a stranger or a ghost
It's the quiet of a storm approaching
That I fear the most
It's the pain that I hear coming
The slightest crystal tear, drops to the ground
In silence, when my love is near.
Darling, when did you fall? When was it over?
Darling when? When did you fall? When was it over?
It's marching through my door now
The stony cold of lonesome
A bell tolls for my heart and then my lonesome song begins
It's marching through my door now
The stony cold of lonesome
A bell tolls for my heart and now my lonesome song begins
Darling, when did you cry? I couldn't hear you
Darling when? When did you cry? I couldn't hear you
I suppose it is the price of falling in love.
I fear that it's the price of falling in love

I know she said it's alright, but you can make it up next time.
I know she knows it's not right,
There ain't no use in lyin’
Maybe she thinks I know something
Maybe… maybe she thinks it’s fine
Maybe… she knows something I don't
I'm so…
I'm so tired…
I'm so tired of trying.
It seems to me that maybe, it pretty much always means no…
So don't tell me you might just let it go.
Often times we're lazy,
It seems to stand in my way
‘Cause no one… no not no one,
Likes to be let down.
I know she loves the sunrise, but no longer sees it with her sleepin’ eyes.
And I know that when she said she's gonna try,
Well it might not work because of other ties and,
I know she usually has some other ties…
And I wouldn't want to break 'em, nah, I wouldn't want to break 'em
Maybe she'll help me to untie this, but until then well,
I'm gonna have to lie, too.
The harder that you try baby, the further you'll fall,
Even with all the money in the whole wide world.
Please please please don't pass me by.
Everything you know about me now baby you gonna have to change
You gonna have to call it by a brand new name
Just like a tree down by the water
I shall not move
Even after all the silly things you do
Please please please don't drag me down

Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man - Funny Time of Year
These silent words of conversation
Hold me now this adulation
See me now
Oh it's easy now
Falling like a silent paper
Holding on to what may be
And I only hear
Only hear the rain
And many rains turn to rivers
Winter's here
And there ain't nothing gonna change
The winds are blowing telling me all I hear
Oh it's a funny time of year
There'll be no blossom on the trees
Turning now I see no reason
The voice of love so out of season
I need you now
But you can't see me now
I'm travelling with no destination
Still hanging on to what may be
It's a funny time of year
I can see
There'll be no blossom on the trees
And time spent cryin' has taken me in this year
Oh it's a funny time of year
There'll be no blossom on the trees
Falling like a silent paper
Holding on to what may be
It's a funny time of year
I can see
There'll be no blossom on the trees
And time spent cryin' has taken me in this year
It's a funny time of year
I can see no blossom no blossom on the trees
Falling like a silent paper
Holding on to what may be
It's a funny time of year
I can see
There'll be no blossom on the trees
And time spent cryin' has taken me in this year
It's a funny time of year
I can see no blossom no blossom on the trees
Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man - Tom The Model
How can I forget your tender smile
Moments that I have shared with you
Our hearts may break
But they're on their way
And there's nothing I can do
Ohh...
So do what you're gotta do
And don't misunderstand me
You know you don't ever have to worry 'bout me
I'd do it again
I can understand that it can't be
Guess it's hard as you were meant for me
But I can't hide my own despair
I guess I never will
Ohh...
So do what you're gotta do
And don't misunderstand me
You know you don't ever have to worry 'bout me
I'd do it again
So tired of life
No fairytale
So hold your fire
'Cause I need you
Ohh...
Just do what you're gotta do
And don't misunderstand me
You know you don't ever have to worry 'bout me
I'd do it again
Do what you're gotta do
And don't misunderstand me

New German something?
-
It's the name given to music from the 70s and 80s, when musicians, bands and singers from germany reemerged and gained popularity in germany.
I liken it to those very "german", newish pop bands, like "Juli" "Revolverheld" "2Raumwohnung", "Wir sind Helden" and the bunch...
Can't stand them, really.
..New German Wave....but it has nothing to do with the musical style wave, but rather describes the phenomenon.

I just got back from Projekt Revolution. We only saw Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, and, of course, Linkin Park. Here are my thoughts...
Taking Back Sunday -- They have potential. Most of their songs blended together and I couldn't really hear the words to their music. They were okay, but definitely need to develop more musically.
My Chemical Romance -- New found respect for the band. They know how to please the crowd! And the lead singer officially declared himself "The Sheriff of Emo Town." Extremely fitting and absolutely hilarious, but he didn't seem to take himself seriously, which is always a good thing.
Linkin Park -- Oh. My. God. What a show! I can't remember the last time I went to a concert and had so much fun. They've got an awesome stage presence and really know how to get the crowd going. Then the next minute they can make the crowd fall quiet and actually listen to the message of their song. They redid a couple of there older songs into a slower, more emotional song and it really worked for them. Chester and Mike really were fabulous, and of course Mr. Wong was awesome! I highly recommend seeing them live if you get the chance. My head is still spinning from their set.

Metallica - Death Magnetic
It's not bad, overall. I mean, I'd say it's better than St. Anger, but I'm pretty sure that would be the same as saying syphilis is better than gonorrhea. Either way, you've still got some pretty gross shit going on, there
But it's decent. I'm not sorry I wasted bandwidth on it, and I imagine it will be on my iPod for a while, at least.
-
Sorry Chutulu, but St. Anger was just shit.

3 Doors Down's new album. I like It's Not My Time rather a lot.
I've been listening to Coldplay's Viva La Vida ad nauseum for months though. It's a brilliant album. They're doing a great job of new music. Violet Hill and Viva La Vida make my soul sing.
I feel the need for some new music! Bring on Christmas!

Eva Cassidy did a version of Sting's Fields of Gold that is just awesome...

Jesus Christ, I have to wait for all those effing smilies to load before being able to type a reply.
How tacky.
Eva Cassidy (if you haven't already researched her) is dead! She died in her 30s. She was incredibly talented, did covers only. She was just starting to write/record her own tunes when she kicked it. She's one of my favourites. One of my philosophy profs came into class one day, ranted about her for a good five minutes, and then proceeded on to lecture. I checked her out and was totally sunk. She's got this voice like uh. Liquid...whiskey..honey. Sex.

Otherwise I'm back in the 80s.
