Freaky Gamer / Fortnite?
« on: December 13, 2018, 01:53:29 pm »
Any Fortnite players?
I try to play with my son, I got user id 'Old.Myrddraal' if you want to add me.

I don't buy stuff and I suck at it.
But sometimes it's fun to play in a team. ;)

Freak Central / Fortnite! and helicopter parenting...
« on: December 07, 2018, 08:57:07 am »
I must be the worst Fortnite player alive... it's a bit strange since I used to be good at QII/QIII/UT ...
Maybe it's the age? (37?!)  ;D

Anyhow, my kid (almost 8) want to play Fortnite, I have played a few times with him.
I sort of reached the conclusion that it's better to play with him than against... ( if you get what I mean...)
That said I'm not certain it's the correct way to handle it. I have tried to get him interested in other STEM related areas but failed so far.
I'm thinking that everything has it's given time as long as I'm supportive.
My daughter is more interested and unlike me she doesn't have any language defects, she even seems talented at it,
so it keeps my hopes up that she might become a better me someday.

Any more parents here? How do you avoid curling (a.k.a. helicopter parenting) too much?  ::)
I never give them things for free, but I do notice a tendency that it feels 'too easy' compared to how it was when I grew up.

Freak Central / Sorry for the Theme...
« on: November 23, 2018, 09:16:33 am »
I suspect nobody cares.
The Walrus told me yesterday that it looked like dope. :)

So I have reset to the basic theme again.
I'll probably continue with the experiment but I have realised that it's not as easy to just take some other theme and just set the colors.
Anyhow, I reset to default again but won't do that again.

Any creative advices would be appreciated. :)
Try to otherwise ignore this.

Freak Central / Battle of the bots :P

Have done a few things:

  • Added Google reCAPTCHA.
  • Could probably consider turning off registration for awhile. :P

I try to keep up with cleaning and banning and also adding rules to the server for complete deny at request for certain ranges.
But it's quite crowdy nowadays out there. :)

Any other suggestion would be welcome!

Freak Central / Fantasy-Freak forum is back!
« on: October 16, 2018, 05:24:27 pm »
...after, like, 10 years?

I have been struggling with a cancer diagnosis since 2016. Hodgkins lymphoma.
Mostly taken me trough hell, I'm still not convinced it is over but I have to believe in something!

So in bed, unable to do normal stuff, I found this topic with google:!forum/fantasy-freak.
It sort of inspired me to bring it back for real since I had some old backup from Meg... something, on my disk for a long time!

I see there is alot of annoying small things to do so I'm not sending out a mail to proclaim it's return just yet.
If password doesn't work, or password recovery end up in you email trash box OR if you want your account removed from the site let me know and I'll help.

Freak Central / Now an iMac owner
« on: November 02, 2008, 07:51:56 pm »
Bought an used iMac, 17", Intel C2D, ATI 1600X and in perfect condition (250 euro)

Pretty nice surprise :-/ Mac OS X sucks ass, of course ;) but it does a hard boot on 5 seconds so it's prefect for casual usage :(
The machine is poolished (its the older white model so the never are even nicer :() It got integrated bluetooth, wlan, webcam and pretty much all ports you need + a small usb hub in the kb. I'm gonna have to say that it makes no sense for a normal user to get a normal PC compared to this, especially since windows runs pretty fine on macs nowadays :-/

I got just one issue:
It is difficult to find good programs ;)

I think it's pretty much impossible to find a program that only runs on mac os x that doesn't have a better big brother in windows/linux.

Now I got nothing else than rest to do and I find myself bored :(

Freak Central / *sigh*

The tv communist was here. :(

I broke the rules:
1. Always lie to strangers.
2. Never open doors for strangers.

I don't even use the damn thing. It's a pathetic 21" from the 90's at tops that I only use for my NES, SNES etc. !

It's more about the principle that I shouldn't have to pay for stuff that I never use...
I could agree to pay a smaller sum or/and select the shows that I want to see.
Maybe they could actually air some interesting stuff then.

Freak Central / Halloween
« on: November 01, 2007, 03:35:00 am »
I refuse to post in that thread with all the pedophiles in it so I had to create a new one. :-P

I didn't even know it was 'this' halloween day until the door rang and some small creature with a Scream mask wanted some candy.
I thought it was pretty hillerious. Anyhow, I gave them plenty of fruit instead ;) and fruit is more expensive than candy. :(

After that I went to the store and shopped some candy. The next person was a boy with a black mask infront of his face. (some kind of ghost?) I should have given him all the candy that I had because no one came after that and now I got a lot of candy left over. >_< Will probably throw it away tomorrow... *sigh*

So is this kind of door knocking halloween all week or was it just today? I seriously have no idea. I know the day of "all saints" is on this saturday so I will light some candles on the memory field of the graveyard.

Ok, probably not. Halo must be the most overrated game in history...

Freaky Gamer / Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
« on: October 06, 2007, 03:04:20 pm »
I tried the english version a bit last night.

It's pretty much like a mix of Z:WW (same graphics style) and Z:LTP (very much like a 2d game in 3d). The interface is pretty good and pretty well integrated into the game. You can write down secerets on your map so you know were to return once you got the right stuff. One example is how you have to find all memory stones on a map and mark them just to find the common intersection point of the lines between these which leads to a hidden room. Even the simpliest puzzles is refreshing when you get to do it in a new way. Sometimes you have to make sounds into the mic and scratch on the screen to do something which is a nice interaction in the game because it makes you wakeup a bit. The player is controled with the stylus. The idea works pretty well but I find it slightly annoying that there is no "normlal control" option and my hands gets tired if I hold the DS in some ways. The dungeons are pretty straight foward. Maybe a bit too easy because you get the full map from the start but its otherwise a more difficult game than Z:TP and the bosses seems slightkly harder to beat. The boat mode, that was so annoying in Z:WW, is slightly better in this game, you plot a course with your pen and of you go. I got no idea how big this game is yet. It's possible that it will end up a bit too small. I think its up there with Z:OT, Z:TP, Z:LTP. I would probably rank it 4th or 5th and after Z:LTP in the series because the story isn't as emotional or dark. Zelda should be dark. Its always about darkness taking over the land... so maybe its a bit too childish but it's perfect for kids. :-P

It got a battle mode and WiFi mode which I havnt been able to try so its possible that it deserves some more credits. I hope that this game, together with Mario Kart and a few more, sets a new standard for DS gaming. ;)
(though that is not going to happen) Its an excellent game for the DS.

Have to love the Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker combination.

Pretty easy and fun action movie / comedy.
The best thing with it is that it does not try to be something else... ;)

End is boring and short.
Like any Jackie Chan movie. ;)

Freaky Gamer / Dungeon Runners (free? MMORPG)

Looks pretty much like WoW but with a bit less detailed graphics:

It's free but if you pay five bucks or so you get priority on the login queue and access to extra weapons and so on.

I figured that someone here (like, let say Hunchback) might d/l and test it and come back and tell me how much it sucks. ;)
Sounds like a good idea if they can keep it running and expand. :)

Freaky World / Light out? (1/2)
« on: February 01, 2007, 05:13:07 pm »
Has anyone heard about this?

On the 1st February, 2007 throughout France:

Take part in the greatest mobilisation of citizens against Climate Change

The “Alliance pour la Planète” (a national grouping of environmental associations) appeals to all citizens to give the planet 5 minutes respite : everybody to extinguish all their lights and illuminations and turn off equipment on stand-by on the 1st February 2007 from 19h55 until 20h00. The purpose is not just to save electricity for 5 minutes that day, but to draw the attention of citizens, the media and the authorities to the waste of energy and the need to initiate action! 5 minutes respite for the planet: that’s not long, it costs nothing and will show our politicians that climate change is something which should figure prominently in political debates.

Why the 1st February? Because that is the day on which the latest report of the United Nations Panel of Experts is to be released in Paris. Although this event is scheduled to take place in France, we should not miss this opportunity of drawing attention to the global climatic situation.

If we all participate our actions will have great public and political resonance, at an important moment in our political life.!

Please make this appeal as widely known as possible in your own circles and networks ! please also publish it on your websites and in your newsletters.
