Wow, it's been turned into a 4-book series already? I had some respect for SRD....
I read both teh previous series, which were good, i loved the 2nd Chronicles especialyl so I bought the f irst book of this series a year or two ago. I couldn't get further than the first two thirds unfortunately. I don't know why, but I guess it is that the whole basis of the original series was the character of Thomas Covenant, his issues, his mental life etc That's why it was called the Thomas Covenant Chronicles - unlike most fantasy the main theme isn't the actual world or what happens to it, it's what happens to the character, and what happens in the world reflects what happens to him.
Now he's apparently daed, at least i didnt hear about him as far as i read, and you just have his ex-lover who was never a very itneresting person.
I do like the concept of the 'end of magic/golden era' thing in The Land, where everything's more 'realistic', 'darker' etc but the story itself didn't grab me
