It just goes to show you what kind of person I am, in that the first thing I thought was "yeah, but is the damn book finished?"

Well, if that's the only connection you (and I) have with the man, then it's not unexpected. I'd have to admit I thought that too. Apparently a few others know the ending, and he had half (most?) of it already down through audio or something.

Yeah, apparently most of it is recorded, and he told his cousin and wife the bones of the rest the other day, so there is a chance that we'll get it.

Honestly who gives a fuck?  He was good barely adequate for one thing and didn't most of us give up on those books ages ago?

Not I.  The last book was actually damn good, and went a long way to making up for the few previous.

I didn't get through  more than about a quarter of crossroads.  I think it was five pages of discription of the threads in some bints dress that finally got to me...

Well yeah, its obviously not a breaking news or even local or state news. He was an author, many people consider reading a form of entertainment :P

While it's a shame the man's dead, I can't say I'm too upset.  Frankly I can live my whole life in contentment without ever knowing what happens at Tarmon Gaiden.

While I don't believe many here are fans any longer, at one time most of us had some degree of passion for the books. Beyond reading entertainment, a few here—or used to be here, at any rate—have had their lives indirectly changed by Jordan's work (fans getting together, getting married and having young 'uns springs to mind as an obvious example).

This forum certainly wouldn't exist if not for the WoT, and creating this forum lead to my career in web and graphic design. Even aside from the big things, these books gave me a lot of joy once upon a time, no doubt about that.

Mr. Jordan has my thanks, and my condolences to his family and friends.

I admit I'm not as upset as I would have been in... say, 1998 or something. But I'm still pretty bummed about it.
I've definitely not forgotten that I met so many great friends because of his bookseries, and I'll always be grateful for that. His series also entertained me and thousands of other people for countless hours of my life, which is as much as any writer can hope for. Even though his writing wasn't always up to par, I think this man did live the dream. It's a pity that he didn't get to finish that dream.
