Vista isn't as bad as ME, no.  I don't even own a Vista machine, but I'm forced to use/fix them at work.  Regardless, Vista is not better than XP, which it should have been.
And yes, Windows 2000 was Microsoft's finest, but I still think Vista kicks ass.
You should try Win2k3 Server. Easily the best OS i've ever used on my home computer. Like XP but with no perceptible degradation over time. I havent reinstalled windows in ages and often leave my computer on over 30 days in a row without any sluggishness whatsoever. The only drawback that i have found with Win2k3 Server is that some programs are impossible to install since they require you to have a certain server version in order to install on a server OS.

I think you can solve it by telling the registry that it's to report that it's just normal XP.

But yeah, out of the box 2k3 is the best MS OS in a while. Haven't tried 2k8 yet though.

Or just use XP x64, same codebase as 2003.

People that don't like it are usually just crying over missing 64-bit drivers.

Or missing software.
My uncle's HBCI software won't run on 64 bit windows, and apparently there's no serious intent on getting it fixed.
What fail, pretending it's still 2000 and 64bit only exists on itanium...

except he still had to use a 32 bit OS, because he depends vitally on that software.
Go vendor lock-in.

I disagree, I found XP to be a complete nightmare of an OS, prone to crashes and blue screens... *gag*

ME however is the worst OS thus far to date. And yes, Windows 2000 was Microsoft's finest, but I still think Vista kicks ass.
