If you think online gaming is stupid why would you buy FF 11 anyhow?

Furthermore, with the exception of 10 the FF franchise has been in the toliet since post-6 anyhow so I doubt that 11 is gonna be that big of a deal.

Sure it'll sell copies but it probably won't be good, it'll just be rapid Square fans buying a shite game just because it has the name square and Final Fantasy on it.

The story is the only redeeming part of the games anymore, although 8 and 9's sotry was a bit too convoluted.

The game play in VII, VIII, and IX has been terrible compared to the earlier ones.

X was a return to better game play and more interesting mechanics finally, but I don't think I trust Square. They're last releases except X have plaed in comparison to their earlier work.

I heard that too. It's a pity.  :cry2:
But then again, I didnt have much faith in online gaming anyway... I like the regular games much better.

Instead, I hope they release FFX Another Story here in Europe.

FF VII was better than VIII or IX but the problem is the characters lacked any uniqeness to them.

They were all the same, except Aeris, who fricking DIES.

Its not the character you build, its the materia. That to me wasn't fun. I didn't get the feeling that my characters were actually learning anything, just that they were slaves to magical materia.

well...... they DID learn something.... if you had a yellow materia ( cant remember the name, eep ) and a monster hit you with magic you learned it.

very easy ^_^

but if you take FF5 for example, that one was really annoying because you had to learn them EVERTHING, that was so veryyyy annoying!

They didn't learn anything, it was stored in the materia.

Sqaresoft's latest Kingdom Hearts isn't all that bad. Though I suspect that it might be because of Disney's influence.

i haven't played though a final fantasy since 7, and i didn't particularly care for the story in that one.  8's magic system blew goats, 9 looked like it might be worth playing and i have no drive to play 10.

and for what it is worth, 4 and 6 were the best two out of all of them i think.

sigh makes me wanna go plug the ps in and play the redone american ff2.

i've just got nothing that competes with the ff's released on the snes,   and the gameboy ones were fun, but that may be the 14yr old that played  em in the car on long family drives talking.
Hey Square,  you know you can make a story where the love story isn't the main fucking focus!  grrr ff7 and 10 were better  with that

The characters did have stats in FF7, some were more adept at things than others....

The limits were all different...

True, all of which were totally overpowered by materia.

The materia system was just way to powerful and it stripped characters of uniquness.

Instead of having a character who's focus was say white magic and healing I just had materia that I would equip on whoever was in my group, basically meaning I can interchange them with anyone else.

Characters were helpless without materia.

Even in FF VI where everyone could learn every spell you had to teach THEM the spell, it didn't go inside a magical rock that ou could pass to anyone, you had to spend time with those characters, and they still had uniquness.

I dunno, I just think the materia system was a flop. Mind you it was nowhere near as awful as the system in 8. That whole sucking magic out of monsters thing was BORING, and the junction system was unwielding and time consuming.

I can understand what you mean about the characters being interchangable, but I still had my favourites, I don't know why they were my favourites... *shrugs*      I thought it was good how any party could do anything... Oh well.. I had fun playing the game so that is all that really mattered to me.. If it wasn't your cup of tea then it wasn't.. :)

I never said I didn't have fun playing the game, I just didn't have as much fun because the game lacked character depth in that regard.

I to had my favorite characters, but not for any discernible reason, I just sorta picked.

I liked RED XIII because he was a doggy.
