I always win the scientific victory, by sending a spaceship to Alpha Centauri.  When your technology is miles and miles ahead of the competition, you win all the wars anyway as one modern infantry unit slaughters hordes of pathetic spearmen.  Besides, I prefer to trade and profit indirectly from my opponents anyway.  What "wars" I have are usually minor border skirmishes over resources.

The one exception to that rule was the time the only two rubber sources on the map were smack in the center of an enormous (but primitive) Celtic empire.  To get at them I ended up creating a fascist state and churning out a huge army... ironically I was playing the Dutch at the time.  :|  Not exactly a military people, the Dutch.

I'm really looking forward to the next game.  :D

I've never played Civilisation.

Maybe I should.

Yes, you should.  Now. :|

Well...maybe wait until after your exams.  Assuming you want to pass them.

Bleh, seems a lot of people with ATI cards are having trouble with getting it to run. I installed and tried playing it this morning but it wouldnt start for me either. I did however not get the same error as most of the other ATI users get so perhaps im in luck and it is something that i can fix myself.....

Didn't have to do anything complicated. I'm just about to start a game to see what it looks like. The soundtrack is very promising :) :) :)

okay.
almost through my first game, and I have to say: too many buildings, too many wonders.
A seperate grocery? pleeease...

Battleships are useless, airplanes are more useful than in civ 3, but still not close to what they used to be, artillery got better...
and tanks...seriously, what's that 28 power rating good for, if the damn thing can't take out one set of cavalry...
the promotion system is useless, too much micromanagement.
stacking units and moving stacks is good. sleep/fortify to heal is nice too. Macemen taking out my helicopter gunship is not.
leaders are a bit annoying, but done well enough. religion is...strange.. taxation is stranger. somehow I could play through the game with 0 or 10% tax, for most of the time, and make money, without extorting my neighbours. strange new formula. They took away the  palace :(
The intro is cool. Only if you've played the original civ.

more later.

I wasn't too nasty, I was an enlightened country.
Until Saddam..errr Saladin pissed me off, and I had to resort to violence to clear him off my continent!
I even had "day of the president" celebrations!

Nothing worse than having to share a continent.  Although it does help the ol' tech advancement, that's for sure.

I have to share a continent with you.

[edit] I had to change a spelling error. 'share' was 'shave'. While this is also amusing, I thought it best to change it back. [/edit]
