Paris is... shitty-looking, it seems.  :?

What a dirty city.

I was always under the impression that Paris was really clean?  No?  :?

Anyway, nothing wrong with the pictures.  But pictures of buildings aren't difficult to take, so I don't think they're a good measure of anyone's skillz.  Unless you are a real photographer, of course, and then you can make buildings look good.

Ya... sorry but that camera is kinda sucky. I can see the distortion and some pixels going on there... they look real blurry, hazy and grey, instead of sharp, with vivid colour and clean crisp lines. Not impressed, sorry... your photography is OK... the camera isn't.

The camera itself is actually a beaut, it's just that Rick's one of those suckahs who thinks bigger and rawer is always better :P Canon cameras seem to often do a lot of automatic polishing to make the pics better, kinda like HPs :)

way to hijack to plug your own shit, Aimless.  It's just always about you isn't Aimless, I'm on to you :lurk:
But when a stranger rushes up and hugs you tight,
You have to hug him back--it seems only polite,
You can't keep him at arm's length, you must play the game,
And if he swears you're his best friend, you do the same.

Actually, I agree.  :|  Other pics I've seen of it must have been totally jazzed up.... For some reason, some of those pictures remind of the little I've seen of Boston, though...

Well, it was pretty overcast, as you can see, so I often had some pretty nasty light situations, in some cases I tried higher ISO settings, which result in a tiny bit of noise, and always a lack of colour. Everything is grey, if the light is grey.
Also, those are scaled down images, the scaling algorithm isn't exactly the best, click twice on the images to get to the original 2000*3000 photos.
You don't see pixels on 10*13 prints.

For me the most important thing with any photograph is the motif.
Then come the technical aspects.

Also, most of the building shots are far from trivial.
Getting into the right place to get the right perspective, isn't always easy, and with most pictures (exception: the louvre shot for example) getting decent natural lighting was impossible :(

it's far dirtier than it appears to be on the pics.

First of all, it all depends on the lenses you have, next it also depends on the weather you have... as you might have noticed there was a lot of overcast in Paris and in your picture it's pretty sunny. I think Rick took alot of picture at reasonable high ISO values, hence the 'pixels' you see.

Next to that there is an insane amount of sharpening in your pictures (doesn't look that great actually) and the saturation is pretty high too...
